2012 Exhibitions

Wear Art Thou
Lane Way Party Exhibition Space

September 2012

For this work I simulated a David Jones beauty counter that showcased the 10 individual fragrances developed in test one. Perfume test strips with 5 different QR Codes linked to the social media sites relating to the 10 products were created. I simulated a beauty sales consultant, encouraging viewers to sample the fragrances, identify the fragrance and memories associated with the scent and scan the QR Codes to identify the product/action.

Transgressions

Off The Kerb Gallery

11 July - 3 August 2012

This project was exhibited in July 2012 as part of a group exhibition, Transgressions, at Off the Kerb Gallery in Collingwood.  This project explored digital intimacy and the 'chance' people take when they upload intimate information online. This project investigated how the everyday use of social media sites has seen the development of new codes of behaviour regarding how an individual’s private information is accessed, promoted and manipulated within public domains.

For this work, I appropriated the data of four Tumblr secrets and created a fifth video that contained my own secrets. These videos were uploaded onto YouTube, and QR codes were created for each video. The QR codes were printed to simulate Tarot cards. These cards were presented face down on a purple velvet covered table and the viewer was invited (via a sign) to find the true secrets of the artist that were viewable through scanning the QR code of the card.

May 2012

This project utilised a mobile phone camera device to closely record the entire surface of my naked body Various tests were undertaken in abstraction and variation of colour, size, movement, speed and layering of the documented footage. Sounds was also utilised and tested in some of the works.

This project attempted to explore digital intimacy and how people’s interaction with social media has created new codes of behaviour regarding how individuals’ private information is accessed, promoted and manipulated in networked publics. This project also attempted to explore how an individual’s interaction within social networking sites desensitises how they view and interpret private imagery and information.
